A day in the life: Haikus from a study species

By Allegra Spensieri, MSc student at Concordia University

I’m in disbelief

The most gorgeous female seen

Right in front of me

This is not tasty

Next time I’ll try a flower

What was I thinking?

Hi science people

I watch you write these each day

Please let me help you

Silly scientist

I don’t move for good reasons

I fly just for fun

How’d the human know

I’d love this new tattoo? See,

I’m Bond’s biggest fan

About the author:

Allegra is an MSs student in biology at Concordia University in Eric Pedersen’s lab. She is working on understanding the patch dynamics of the European common blue butterfly, a non-native species, to understand how it may continue to expand its range in North America. These photos were all taken during her field season in the summer of 2023, where she quickly found out that these butterflies don’t always behave as expected.
